The idea for Sweet Leaf Tea was conceived while Clayton was living on a sailboat in the Florida Keys. He and his friends couldn’t understand why bottle tea never tasted as good as homemade. Inspired by the homemade tea Clayton’s grandmother used to make, he began tasting teas from all over the world and brewing countless batches in his kitchen. with all $10,000of Clayton’s and an old delivery van, Sweet Leaf tea was born. Soon after David Smith, Clayton’s childhood friend, joined him in the quest to create the best tasting highest quality bottled tea on the planet (and have as much fun as possible along the way).

A lot of what makes Sweet Leaf Tea comes from the well-traveled taste buds of David and Clayton. They came up with the idea of Mint and Honey Green Tea after a trip they made on their bicycles through North Africa and the Middle East. There, they were served a lot of mint tea. Clayton is constantly tasting and testing new, great flavors from all over the world.
